Catheter Placement for Surgery

The Honolulu Pain Management Clinic LLC employs catheters to perform a surgical procedure.

Catheter Placement for Surgery – In medicine, a catheter is a thin tube made from medical grade materials serving a broad range of functions. Catheters are medical devices that can be inserted in the body to treat diseases or perform a surgical procedure. Catheters are used for the administration of anaesthetic medication into the epidural space, the subarachnoid space, or around a major nerve bundle. A catheter may be inserted into this space for three to six months, to deliver anesthetics or analgesics. The line carrying the drug may be threaded under the skin to emerge at the front of the patient, a process called tunneling. This is recommended with long term use so as to reduce the chance of any infection at the exit site reaching the epidural space. [1] [2]
